Entrevista con Luis Almeida Sampaio (Embajador de Portugal en Alemania)

A continuación, compartimos la entrevista que realizamos el pasado marzo a Luis Almeida Sampaio, Embajador de Portugal en Alemania, sobre actualidad política, económica y el papel de la diplomacia cultural ante la coyuntura internacional actual.

Entre otras ideas, Almeida Sampaio señala los problemas económicos que Europa atraviesa, así como el gran problema del desempleo juvenil. Acerca de las acciones del gobierno de Portugal contra dicha la crisis economica, el embajador Sampaio señala las reformas y planes a largo plazo que su gobierno esta adoptando para paliar el desempleo y la desigualdad y, relacionado con ello, el embajador también recalca la importancia y la apertura de su país al turismo y a recibir ciudadanos de otros paises que se acerquen a conocer la cultural portuguesa.

Además, Almeida Sapaio indica algunos ejemplos de la Diplomacia Cultural portuguesa. Asi, señala por ejemplo el papel del portuguese como idioma global con hablantes en Latino América y África, así como la relación histórica y los puentes culturales comunes entre Portugal con Brasil y con otras naciones africanas como Angola.

Interview with Luis Almeida Sampaio

(Ambassador of Portugal in Germany)

Here, we share the interview we’ve conducted last March to Luis Almeida Sampaio, Ambassador of Portugal in Germany, about politics, economics and the role of the Cultural Diplomacy to the current international crisis situation.

Among other ideas, Almeida Sampaio talks about the economic problems that Europe is going through, and the big problem of the youth unemployment. About the Portuguese government actions against this economic crisis, Ambassador Sampaio says that the reforms and long-term plans that his government is taking to alleviate unemployment and inequality will be effective and, related to this, the ambassador also emphasized the importance of their country to tourism and to receive citizens from other countries who come to know the Portuguese country and culture.

In addition, Almeida Sapaio indicates some examples of Portuguese Cultural Diplomacy nowadays. So, notes for example the role of Portuguese as global language with speakers in Latin America and Africa, as well as the historical and cultural common bridges between Portugal and Brazil and also with another African nations like Angola.
