Conference from Ángeles González-Sinde

(Former Minister of Culture of Spain)

By Alberto Aznar Traval, Institute for Cultural Diplomacy.

On this occasion, we want to share with you the lecture by Angeles Gonzalez-Sinde, former Minister of Culture of Spain, who last December we had the opportunity to enjoy at the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy. During the conference, the former Minister made some reflections on the relationship between politics and culture and the importance of culture and education in the construction of public space.

Among other ideas, Angeles Gonzalez-Sinde indicates the potential of film, theater and culture in general to create and disseminate the culture itself of each country, and how these cultural opportunities can provide economic opportunities.

In this sense, the former Minister has the curiosity of how in certain places or cities culture can be considered, de facto, as the ‘industry’ or ‘factory’ as the main creator of wealth. And speaking of the examples, in Spain, in the city of Toledo or the paintings of Goya and Velázquez.

In conclusion, Angeles Gonzalez-Sinde leaves the reflection that, although the culture should collaborate with private enterprise and the market to provide economic opportunities, we can not forget that ethics and the common good should be the basis of Cultural Diplomacy .
